Patricias - Melbourne CBD
This is my first blog written straight after visiting a new location for the first time, on recommendation.... so here goes.
Love at first coffee...
For anyone wondering what the whole Melbourne obsession with coffee is all about start by going to Patricias. Quintessentially Melbourne and all things that make coffee a culture not a beverage.
Im my dreams I will retire soon and open my own coffee shop where I will spend my days making coffee full of good conversation and just enough food to add to the experience. By food I always imagined a small selection of goodies that sit on the side of the coffee. This place had all of that in spades, it created a sense of yearning for exactly what i would like coffee life to be.
The first thing that strikes you as you turn into the alley is the hoard of people literally spilling out of the windows and filling the laneway. The queue is long but the wait is worth while, as I stood waiting for the coffee to be made I couldn't help but immerse, melt even, into the fabric of Patricias. It buzzes, patrons have their palates cleansed with a sparking water poured on tap while the lure of the pasties grows, for me it ended with an amazing passionfruit custard filled croissant type thing that was to die for.
As for the coffee, I could have dunked my head into a bucket of it. There was a sweetness to the first taste and it lingered for ages. Nothing like sucking a great coffee off your teeth long after its gone lol.. I noted the supply of the beans was credited to the crew at Seven Seeds, yet another victory for this Melbourne roasting icon. But the roasters are on rotation and I was offered the house blend or a Guatemalan single origin which I gleefully took. I hear there is cold brew and all sorts of other goodies to try, another trip guaranteed.
This hole in the wall trendy venue is just great coffee done well by people who care... about the coffee. A quick google and you will see the word is out, join the queue!
