Industry Beans - Melbourne CBD
Clean, funky and unique... this is the CBD concept shop of the Fitzroy icon Industry Beans.
It looks and feels new but the foot traffic says it's familiar and no doubt its reputation from home base in Fitzroy precedes it.
Not sure if its the right or wrong thing to do but I just think you need to read a description of them in their own words so I lifted this from their website, it feels too important to understanding the vibe to leave out:
"Over the last decade, a wave of coffee roasters across the globe, known as the Third Wave, redefined ideas about sourcing, roasting and brewing coffee. Abandoning old approaches, these pioneers saw coffee as a natural product with many possibilities, recognising that different varietals, growing conditions, processing methods and brewing techniques could each yield something distinctive to a final cup.
Inspired by this movement, two brothers in Melbourne founded Industry Beans in 2010. Driven by curiosity and a belief that the coffee roasting process offered possibilities yet to be fully explored."
It screams not just what this place is about but what my own journey of coffee curiosity is all about. More than a drink, a caffeine hit or a 'my day cant start without', coffee is becoming an art, a passion and something to be explored.
Industry Bean is has its selection of signature blends, single origins, cold brew and iced coffee ... a vast selection offered in many and varied forms that will provide for surprising repeat visits. I am most curious about the advertised 'specialty' the Cold Drip Bubble Cup, cold brew coffee with coffee-soaked tapioca pearls and a house-made consoy (blended condensed milk and soy milk). As wrong as it sounds perhaps next hot Melbourne day i'll build up the courage.
The coffee itself was on point, it was grainy, almost chalky in how each sip remained on your teeth for so long. Thats a good thing. It was more Shiraz that Cab Sav (coffee is like wine) in style, on the fruity side and easy on the palette, so I am keen next time to check out some single origins or just up the hit.
What struck me most is this is a well polished all round business, the coffee is the star but the style is certainly considered as seen in the store, the website and the products. A really good 'Menu' of coffee, self roasted and described for the coffee connoisseur. The position themselves as Brunch experts full of fresh seasonal produce to complement the coffee......just the way I like it.
Certainly one for the hipsters but hats off to them from those more grunge inspired :)
Im thinking its time for a visit to Fitzroy for the original experience...
